North Providence RI

North Providence

North Providence is just a stone’s throw from downtown Providence, but it’s not your typical suburb. There are family-friendly events throughout the year, there’s tons of local flair, and although there isn’t an old-fashioned downtown, there’s plenty of charm in the neighborhoods.

Homes

Below are some of the most common searches people run for North Providence, but if you don’t see what you’re looking for or you want to narrow the results down even more, you can perform a custom search over here.

Dining and Shopping

When it comes to shopping in North Providence, Mineral Springs Ave. is the go-to place. You’ve got a bunch of the standards there (CVS, Lowe’s, cell phone stores, fast food restaurants, etc.), but you’ve also got local grocery stores, local restaurants, a couple of coffee shops, and did we mention restaurants? If you’re interested in falafel, North Side Pockets has some of the best in the area. Looking for Turkish? Istanbul Gourmet has both a grocery and a prepared food section. Maybe Indian is your favorite, and if that’s the case, Masala Indian Cuisine is really popular. You might have gotten the impression that North Providence is multi-cultural, and you’d be right. But don’t worry if you’re into more traditional foods — there’s a lot of great Italian, sandwich, Greek, and breakfast places to check out, too!

Parks and Recreation

North Providence has two big parks — Governor Notte Park and Olney Memorial Park. Notte Park is centered around a reservoir that was created in 1835 for the mills downstream, but today, that reservoir is full of swimmers (there’s a beach), boaters (there are boat rentals), and people fishing. And if you’re looking for more land-based activities, it also has tennis courts, ball fields, playgrounds, picnic spots, trails, and even a waterfall! Olney Park is pretty similar, but without the reservoir. There are tennis courts, ball fields, playgrounds, picnic spots, trails, and an old family cemetery to explore, too.

Fun Stuff to Do

You might be surprised to hear about all the community events in North Providence, but you won’t necessarily be shocked when you learn that the majority of them happen at Notte Park. The year-round calendar includes a Fishing Derby for the kids, festivals for Memorial Day and the 4th of July, Art in the Park for art lovers, Pumpkins in the Park for some extra Halloween fun, and a Christmas Tree Lighting. And if you’ve worked up an appetite, be sure to take a cooking class with the Professor Chef!

Commute

North Providence is only 5 miles from downtown Providence. Routes 44 and 146 both run through it, and depending on where you live, either I-95 or I-295 can be a short drive. There are lots of commuting options in town, so wherever you work, chances are good that you’ll get there without too much trouble.
